03STEERING & CONTROL SYSTEMS

Steering & control systems

Fault finding, maintenance, revision and new installations on hydraulic steering: helm pumps, cylinders, hydraulic lines, multiple control stations, joystick and autopilot hydraulic infrastructure — installed, checked and function-tested.

03STEERING & CONTROL SYSTEMS

From pump to cylinder, from hydraulic line to control system — we assess the entire steering system.

We treat the main helm, flybridge, joystick and autopilot hydraulic infrastructure as one integrated system. Our scope is the hydraulic side of the autopilot — not its electronics or navigation.

01Which problems do we solve?

  • Has the steering become heavy?
  • Is there play or delayed response at the wheel?
  • Is the helm pump or cylinder leaking oil?
  • Does the flybridge station behave differently from the main helm?
  • Does the steering misbehave with the autopilot engaged?
  • Is full lock-to-lock travel no longer achieved?

We determine whether the problem comes from the pump, cylinder, valve, hydraulic line, mechanical linkage or controls — and apply a lasting fix.

03How does the system work?

From the helm to the rudder blade.

  3. 03Valve / bypass

The flybridge station, autopilot pump and joystick infrastructure connect to the same hydraulic circuit — each is tested as part of it.

04Our service approach

“Main helm, flybridge, joystick and autopilot hydraulics — one system.”

We don’t look at a steering system as a single pump or cylinder, but as a whole — from the control point to the rudder mechanism. In multi-station systems every station, the autopilot pump and the joystick infrastructure must be integrated correctly into the circuit; we don’t hand over until bleeding, oil and stroke checks are complete.

05Service process

From survey
to service report.

Our goal is not just to get a system running again, but to hand it over correct and serviceable.

  1. 01

    System check

Steering response, pumps, cylinders, lines, connections and leaks are checked.

  2. 02

    Fault diagnosis

We establish whether the problem lies in the pump, cylinder, valve, hydraulic line, mechanical linkage or controls.

  3. 03

    Solution & revision

Parts to be repaired, renewed or replaced are defined.

  4. 04

    Implementation

Repairs, part replacement, line renewal, installation and system adjustments are carried out.

  5. 05

    Bleeding & test

The system is bled; full lock-to-lock travel, response, leaks and control functions are tested.

08Frequently asked questions

Good
questions.

Can’t find your answer? Just tell us the system and the marina.

Ask a question
How can I tell there is air in the steering?

A spongy feel at the wheel, play, a different number of turns lock-to-lock and the rudder creeping on its own are typical signs. The system is bled and oil level and leaks are checked.

Do you service autopilot electronics?

No. The autopilot pump’s hydraulic connections and hydraulic infrastructure are in our scope; electronics and navigation are handled by specialists, and we coordinate with them when needed.

How often should the steering be checked?

At the start of the season and before long passages: oil level, leaks, connections and full lock-to-lock travel, following the manufacturer’s maintenance plan.

Get your steering back with confidence.

Tell us the symptom, the number of stations and where the boat is; we’ll share an inspection and revision plan.
